TREEmendous Extreme Tree Houses Exhibition at Missouri Botanical Garden
Posted by Schuyler on 16 March 2011 | 101 Comments
This is great. 7 treehouses will be featured at the Missouri Botanical Garden in April. It was part of a design contest and winners are anywhere from architecture firms to students. They utilize 7 different trees. Unfortunately, there are no pictures (yet) but when there are, I will post them. Super rad.

Working on a new tree house design

I have a request for proposal for a new tree house! This time, with a twist. The request is for a double decker tree house that is enclosed. This idea had been proposed by a friend of mine a while ago. At that time, I had thought about it and put it in the back of my mind not thinking I would build one anytime soon. Well, looks like I might.
One challenge about this design is access from one level to another. Sure, I could put stairs in it or a ships ladder, but that would be ordinary and take up valuable real estate. So I came up with a great idea. I would love to build half of a spiral staircase on the outside of the house! How awesome would that be?!
Also, in designing this double decker, I decided I needed a name. Based on inspiration from KFC releasing a ridiculous "sandwich," I would like to name my 2 story tree house The Double Up. I'm open to other names, but that's what I got for now.
I love this process. Start with a skeleton for a product and be able to modify it to be many things. I'm still going to use the same construction method, just a slightly different application.
Got any great ideas you'd like to see in a tree house? Leave a comment and they might show up in one some day.
