Tree house Install: Day 2

Today started out with rain. I heard rain outside at about 5am and though, "Oh crap, all my power tools are going to be wet." Sure enough, they were. But I didn't let that phase me.

Today was the day to mount the drilling jig, drill the holes, set the rods, and lift the tree house frame into place. It started out well with placing the jig on the tree. We drilled hole #1 fine.

We then went onto hole #2. That is when the problems started. Hole #2 hit hole #1. We had to spend most of the day correcting what had happened. We then drilled hole #3 and 4 without a hitch. We found out what the problem with hole #2 was, so it didn't happen again. We then had all the holes drilled and set the poles.

When all the poles were in position, we prepared the material lifts and some guiding ropes to help the tree house elevate.

We raised the tree house vertically and attached the clevises to my brackets. Thankfully, the placement of the rods and of the tree house was almost perfect and making the connection happened relatively quickly. We then lowered the material lifts out of the way and the tree house frame was hanging on it's own.

After this long and nerve-wracking day, we enjoyed the fruits of our labor.

Here are some detail shots of the tree house elevated.

Tomorrow, we will be adding the joists, tying the bottom of the tree house to the tree, decking, then adding the railings. Stay tuned, the finished product is almost here!

Tree House Install: Day 1

Greetings,

Day 1 of the install was a great success. Half of the day was transferring materials to the job site. The other half was assembling the structure of the tree house. I also accepted the rental equipment: boom and material lifts.

This lift is just the perfect size. It turns, twists, goes out, in, and up. It will get me to where I need to be.

We then assembled the structure around the tree. This went relatively quickly because of all the pre-fab I had already done.

Here, you can see the material lifts in place for tomorrow's lift. More on that later. It came together quite nicely.

You can check out the other pictures at the Home Page slide show or an the Project Page. There are even some action shots.

Thank you to Dad, Devin, Beth, and Daniel for your help today. It was greatly appreciated. Speaking of help, tomorrow is the day I will need the most help. It will be the raising of the tree house. I will need spotters, material lift handlers, and just about as many hands around as possible. This will be occurring in the afternoon. Please, contact me if you can help. I will REALLY need it!

So, tomorrow's agenda is as follows:

  • Set the drilling jig and drill holes
  • Block up the material lifts
  • Set the rods in the tree
  • Raise the tree house and connect it to the rods

Again, if you can help. please let me know.

Thanks!
